Saga of Office Depot: Part 1
After finding a “hot deal” on the Anandtech forums for a 250 GB external Western Digital Harddrive, the fun begins.
Office depot has this hard drive for $169.99 with a $60 rebate. Staples has the drive for $119.98 online with no rebates. So, the goal is to have Office Depot price match this drive to Staples Price, then send the rebate, getting me a 250gb Hard Drive for 59.98 after rebate( Thats $0.23/gb EXTERNAL!) Details on the deal are available here.
Went to the Local Depot yesterday to see if they would match the price in the store, no dice. They say the don’t compete with Staples since they ain’t around here.
This morning I called the Depot to do a phone/online order, they told me they wouldn’t price match staples but would give a 15% discount on the drive. Now, the Office depot site states:
How does Office Depot’s 100% Low Price guarantee work?
The prices advertised in this catalog are available for phone, fax, and online orders only. If you find a lower price on a new, identical product at any other office product or consumer electronics supplier within 14 days of your Office Depot purchase, please call us at 1-800-GO-DEPOT (1-800-463-3768), and we will instantly match the price. Please remember to have the advertisement ready to fax or email when you call.
Does Office Depot price match all products?
Yes-as long as the item is identical, including model number, components, and U.S. manufacturer’s warranty. For wireless phones and other items with a service plan, the plan, provider, and other terms must be the same. The item must be in stock and available for immediate purchase at that price from an authorized U.S. reseller, which we reserve the right to verify.
Im going to give the Depot one more call this afternoon to see if its just a decision by the phone operator or if they are NOT HONORING THEIR POLICY. Since I have all the time in the world, I’ll take this as far up the management chain as possible.
If I don’t get this deal to work, Office Depot will be put “On Notice” (Makes things very difficult for me since I am a Carl Edwards fan (driver of the #99 Office Depot Ford Fusion))
