The Toyota Camry has been approved by NASCAR for competition in 2007!!!
NASCAR has approved the current version of the Toyota Camry “Car of Today” for competition beginning in 2007, according to Robin Pemberton, vice president of competition.
“That car is done and has been approved,” Pemberton told Scene Daily during the Bristol race weekend. “(Engine-wise), they’ve brought parts and it should be done by the end of this month.”
The “Car of Today” will run the majority of races on the NASCAR circuit in 2007, including the season-opening Daytona 500. The car completed an on-track trial at Atlanta Motor Speedway earlier this year and also went through wind tunnel tests.
The Camry slated for “Car of Tomorrow” competition ran in recent NASCAR tests at Michigan International Speedway and is participating in NASCAR wind tunnel tests.
