Radar Display..Deterrent or Incentive?: Updated
My current employer recently installed a sign that indicates how fast you are going to you are going on the ultra conservative 25 mile per hour speed limit. Signs like this are all over the place today. Milwaukee Country put them up on the 43/94 split by the Airport. Do most people look at these signs as a “threat’ or is it more an incentive to speed, just to see what the board can do.
Someone like me would decide to test the capability of such a sign. When i first noticed this sign, my first thought was, What is I’m going faster than 99 mph, and what would it do. Yesterday a test, by an unidentified source, was done just see what it can do. Initial conclusion show that the damn thing doesn’t even show speeds past 45. The driver of the unidentified auto was doing between 60-65 heading towards the sign, but the sign consistently read 45. Now thats weak.
A Note for those interested in this story. The radar sign has been relocated from the 27th Street exit to the esses going towards the parking structure entering on the 27th Street exit. This must be part of their research on determining on where to put what they call “speed plateaus”
