New City..New Job….
Tomorrow I start my first day at my new job in St. Louis. So, yesterday I loaded up the flahavin.com Toyota Tundra and drove down here to get to know the area, and take care of a few things to make this place home.
St. Louis so far seems much better than Milwaukee, but there are a few things unique to Milwaukee that will be missed, but I’ll be sure to come back and visit to enjoy Milwaukee’s Best(not the beer). Got to go back there for the NASCAR weekend at the Milwaukee Mile, hang out with some friends, eat a Sobelman’s burger (by the way they have a website now!!!), try to get another NM burrito day, stock up on Usinger’s sausage, and I’m sure there is more that I don’t realize yet.
The drive down from Milwaukee wasn’t bad, except for an accident in Rockford, IL that shutdown 90/39. Other than that, lets just say I moved quick. Lets just say, the gas gauge goes down a lot quicker with covering fewer miles. Didn’t see too many bears until I hit Springfield on 55. For some reason, that was the speed trap of the trip. Right past Springfield, there was a major speed bust. 6 cars pulled over in the same area, and 2 more cops waiting for a victim. That has to be that ass-faced governor wanting more money.
Except for this shit weather and people not knowing how deal with it, St. Louis kicks ass so far. Don’t blame me for bringing it down this way, since it was nice in Milwaukee too when I left. Gas is cheaper (currently 2.07), the cost of living is less, they have highways out of the ass, at least on the West Side. Every major street is like a highway with 60 mph speed limits. Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about. The main highway (I-270) is massive with more than enough lanes. Food chain wise, you name it, its here. White Castle, Hardees, Arbys, Sonic, Jack-In-The-Box, DQ and the list goes on.
Found a new place close to work today, which is pretty cheap, close to work, and has some nice features like a pool in the summer and a weight room(got to get that going again). So, looking to start at work tomorrow, then either sticking around a couple more days working over the weekend, and checking out more of the city, if the weather permits, or heading back to Milwaukee to pick up the rest of my “junk.” I hope to be nicely settled and “comfy” by the end of next week.
